Hello! My name is Roxanne and I live in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I graduated with my degree in Interior Design while in Madison, and am going back to school for Architecture and Urban Planning with about 3 years to go. Growing up in a home of beat up hand me downs, thrift store wardrobes, government hand outs, and free lunches has forced me to be creative, and rather frugal (in a good way). It has taught me many ways to penny pinch, create what I wanted instead of buy it, cook what I crave instead of dine out, bargain hunt, and make wise choices, all while being chic and creating my own individuality. I’m here to share what i’ve learned over the years with you. I love to create new and interesting things and thrive on making something from nothing. My (many) hobbies include painting, sewing, cooking, baking, crafting, taking photos, designing, space planning, playing with floor plans, drawing, blogging, journaling, scrap collecting, karaoke singing, hunting for local treasures, taking/making adventures, and live life to it’s utmost fullest whenever possible.
My sister and I, (the bride) in 1986 in New Jersey.
I’ve thought long and hard about what “Practical Enrichment” means to me. It is the way I live my life, living practically, logically, with less clutter, and with “a place for everything, and everything in it’s place”. I like to “enrich” my life simply, spending less money on things that could easily cost twice as much, and not be materialistic. I shop at thrift stores, for clothes I can make my own, and for little design items. I buy organic and local, when I can get away with it. I like to help the planet, when and where I can. I recycle, and try not to use un-nessesary amounts of packaging and (when I remember) bring my own shopping bags to stores. I use recycled items to make crafts, wrap presents, and design my house, and try to reduce my carbon footprint. I shut off the water when I brush my teeth, and only do full loads of dishes at a time. I water the plant with leftover glasses and bottles of water lying around. So I thought that Practical Enrichment was the perfect name for my blog. It is, after all, what I stand for. Being neat, organized, and living practically, and enriching life simply, while being chic and elegant.

I especially like your last paragraph – and I did start a blog – two in fact – just a few months ago! I always write letters to my children at Christmas – sometimes more often, but at least once a year. They know their letters will be in their stockings! Probably wouldn’t do anything you said not to – just a little bit inhibited! But that’s just me. Congratulations on being freshly pressed!
I really like your site and your Pinterest boards.
Thanks for being awesome.
